In an industry defined by long cycles, heavy assets, and unforgiving operational realities, lasting trust is rare.
Yet over the past decade, PSP Cargo Group Romania has done more than build a business — it has built credibility, route by route, contract by contract.

To mark this milestone, we spoke with Kinga Madarasan, General Director of PSP Cargo Group Romania, about the strategic choices, the defining challenges, and the human qualities that shaped these ten years of steady, disciplined growth.

A vision built to endure, not impress

When PSP Cargo Group Romania entered the market, it stepped into a sector where change moves slowly — unless someone pushes it. The company’s founding vision was intentionally ambitious:

  • to deliver integrated, flexible, and sustainable rail logistics solutions capable of competing with road freight.

The vision never changed,” says Kinga Madarasan.

“To become the most flexible, active, and inspiring railway logistics company in Central and Eastern Europe. Structures evolved, people evolved — but the core remained intact.”

Through strategic acquisitions, bold regional partnerships, and targeted investments in Romania, the company built a network capable of delivering both agility and scale — a rare combination in rail transport.

The turning points that tempered the company

Every rail operator faces pressure. But PSP Cargo’s turning points became accelerators:

  • losing its first major tender, which forced the company to sharpen its strategy;
  • a global pandemic, which reshaped supply chains overnight;
  • regional conflict impacting cross-border flows;
  • unpredictable market swings, pushing operators to adapt faster than ever.

We built the organisation during turbulence,” Kinga recalls.

“There was no clean runway. We built the plane while flying it — and that formed our discipline.”

Those years strengthened operational foresight, improved internal communication, and cultivated a leadership culture centred on rapid, transparent decision-making.

A team that stands the test of time

Rail logistics is a complex business. But complexity can be managed — if the team is stable, experienced, and aligned.

PSP Cargo Group Romania’s workforce now has an average tenure of over 5 years, exceptional for a sector known for high rotation and skill shortages.

Our success is built on people,” Kinga says plainly.

“We are proud of the integrity, autonomy, and professional maturity of our team. They deliver — in every sense of the word.”

Their collective expertise is visible in execution quality, safety standards, client retention, and operational continuity.

Flexibility: the new strategic currency

The logistics market has shifted. Our clients do not tolerate slow response times or rigid transport models. PSP Cargo Group anticipated this shift early — and aligned its structure to match.

With rail, road, terminal, and value-added services under one umbrella, the group offers true end-to-end multimodal solutions.

“We don’t simply move cargo,” Kinga explains.

“We design tailored logistics routes — even for smaller volumes — so that rail becomes a practical alternative to road.”

This flexibility has become the company’s signature strength: fast quotations, fast decisions, and transport models adapted to the client’s real-world constraints.

Sustainability through action instead of declarations

Over the past decade, the group has invested more than €26 million into modernising its locomotive fleet — prioritising electric traction and efficient diesel technologies.

But the real impact is systemic:
– every train replaces dozens of trucks.
Every shift from road to rail reduces congestion, emissions, and operational unpredictability for companies across Europe.

For PSP Cargo’s clients, sustainability though it can be a CSR checkbox, it is also a measurable operational advantage.

Partnerships that endure beyond contracts

In rail freight, long-term collaboration is the ultimate metric of trust. Many of PSP Cargo’s strategic clients and partners have been with the company from the early years.

Partnerships are the backbone of what we built,” Kinga reflects.

“They provide stability, they accelerate innovation, and they define our reputation.”

These alliances enabled the expansion of PSP Cargo’s network, strengthened its capacity, and helped shape integrated logistics solutions across borders.

Professionalism: a standard carried by people

For PSP Cargo, professionalism is a daily behaviour:

  • communicate early,
  • report issues transparently,
  • propose solutions with responsibility,
  • and execute them with precision.

Professionalism means ownership,” Kinga states.

“You don’t hide problems. You manage them. That’s the culture we expect and cultivate.”

This mindset has become part of the company’s identity — and a key reason clients rely on PSP Cargo in critical moments.

Investing in the future: capability, education, and innovation

Looking ahead, PSP Cargo Group Romania is focused on long-term capability building. The company now operates a dedicated Training Centre, supports leadership and management development, and continues to invest in modern, integrated logistics solutions.

“Our strongest future asset is our team,” Kinga says.

“Their professionalism, adaptability, and curiosity will carry PSP Cargo into the next decade.”

One word that defines PSP Cargo: Credibility

When asked to capture the company’s essence in a single word, Kinga answered without hesitation:

“Credibility. People can truly rely on us.”

A message to those who built these 10 years

“To our team — thank you for your commitment, day after day.
To our clients and partners — thank you for the trust, the dialogue, and the shared objectives.

What we built together is real — and it will continue to grow, step by step, route by route, year by year.”
